Nutrition isn’t one-size-fits-all. As children grow, their dietary needs change, and what works at one stage may not be enough at another. In our latest podcast, Dr. Gurmeet Soni Bala spoke with Dhruv Gupta, Co-founder of Orange Health Labs, about why age-appropriate nutrition is so important.

How Nutrition Needs Evolve as Children Grow

From infancy to adolescence, children require different balances of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. These guidelines are clearly outlined by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, ensuring that nutrition supports growth at every stage.

For instance, a child under the age of five typically needs about 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight each day. But that requirement increases as they grow older.

    Why Adolescence Requires Special Attention

In adolescence, the body undergoes rapid physical changes. For children who are especially active such as young athletes, protein needs can rise to 1.5 to 2 grams per kilogram of body weight. Meeting these demands helps support strength, stamina, and overall development during this crucial stage.

Supporting Healthy Growth Through Every Stage

As children’s nutritional requirements shift as they age, adapting diets accordingly ensures stronger foundations for the future. Age-specific guidelines make it easier for parents to provide balanced meals that match their child’s growth needs and lifestyle.
