What are postpartum blues, and when do they turn into serious depression?

    hero image

In our latest episode of the Orange Club Podcast, Dr. Usha B.R. shares that postpartum blues, which include mood swings, excessive crying, irritability, and emotional sensitivity, are very common, affecting approximately 60-70% of women after childbirth. These symptoms usually appear within the first few weeks and gradually improve with emotional support and self-care. However, if these feelings persist beyond three months, worsen over time, or interfere with daily life and bonding with the baby, it could indicate postpartum depression or even postpartum psychosis in severe cases. In such situations, seeking medical attention and professional support is essential to ensure the mother’s well-being.
