CertifiedLabsASO is an antibody your body makes in response to a recent infection with streptococcus bacteria, the germ that commonly causes throat infections. The ASO titre measures how much of this antibody is present. The ASO titre blood test measures the level of antibodies against streptococcus bacteria. A high or rising level suggests a recent streptococcal infection, which is important because such infections can sometimes lead to complications.
Before the Test
Tell your doctor about any recent sore throat, fever, or skin infection.
A single result may need a repeat test to show the trend.
Fasting is not required.
During the Test
A trained Orange Health Labs professional will collect your sample during the visit.
Follow the instructions given to you at the time of collection.
The sample is labelled and sent to the laboratory for testing.
Let the collection team know if you feel unwell during the procedure.
It is recommended:
To check for a recent streptococcal infection.
To help assess complications that can follow a strep throat, such as rheumatic fever or certain kidney problems.
To investigate joint pains, fever, or other symptoms after a sore throat.
To support diagnosis when these complications are suspected.
Usually done a couple of weeks after a suspected strep infection, when antibody levels are higher. Whenever your doctor wants to look for a recent strep infection.
