What is Beta - Hcg (Total), (Maternal) test?
Beta HCG is a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy. The maternal Beta hCG test measures this hormone level in the blood and is a routine test ordered to confirm a pregnancy. A positive maternal βhCG result means that a woman is likely to be pregnant. A high hCG level could also indicate that pregnancy dating has been miscalculated. It may also signify a molar pregnancy or a multiple pregnancies.
Why get the Beta - Hcg (Total), (Maternal) test?
Beta HCG (BHCG or blood pregnancy test) may be performed by your doctor if they suspect that you may be pregnant, or if you suspect pregnancy yourself! Usual pregnancy symptoms include a missed or late period (amenorrhea), breast fullness or tenderness, or nausea and vomiting (morning sickness)
