What is CA 15.3 (Breast Cancer Marker) test?
Cancer Antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3) is a Protein that is produced by normal breast cells. However, when CA 15-3 is present in the blood in high levels, it may indicate the presence of tumor cells. Hence, this test is considered as a Blood test for breast cancer, but would not be the only test ordered by your doctor to screen for breast cancer.
Why get the CA 15.3 (Breast Cancer Marker) test?
The CA 15-3 test is administered to those suspected to have breast cancer. For those diagnosed with breast cancer, this blood test can evaluate if the cancer treatment is effective. Patients who began treatment with a high level of CA 15-3 are usually administered this test during the course of treatment.
