CertifiedLabsHLA-B27 is a genetic marker found on the surface of cells in some people. Having it is linked to a higher chance of certain conditions that cause joint and spine inflammation. The HLA-B27 test checks whether you carry this genetic marker. It supports the diagnosis of certain inflammatory joint and spine conditions, but it is not a diagnosis on its own.
Before the Test
Remember that carrying HLA-B27 does not mean you have or will get a disease; many healthy people carry it.
A negative result does not fully rule out these conditions.
Fasting is not required.
During the Test
A trained Orange Health Labs professional will collect your sample during the visit.
Follow the instructions given to you at the time of collection.
The sample is labelled and sent to the laboratory for testing.
Let the collection team know if you feel unwell during the procedure.
It is recommended:
To help assess long-lasting back or joint pain that may be due to inflammation.
To support the diagnosis of conditions such as ankylosing spondylitis and related disorders.
To investigate certain types of eye inflammation.
To add information to the overall clinical picture.
Whenever your doctor wants to investigate suspected inflammatory joint or spine disease. Timing of day does not matter.
