GOT QUESTIONS?FAQsThe Lp(a) test measures the amount of Lipoprotein (a) in your blood. It helps identify people with an inherited tendency for early heart disease. It is done to have a strong family history of early heart disease or stroke, have had a heart attack or stroke at a young age despite normal or only mildly raised cholesterol, have familial hypercholesterolemia (very high LDL cholesterol from a young age), have unexplained narrowing of heart or neck arteries, and knowing your Lp(a) level helps your doctor decide how aggressively to manage your overall heart risk (diet, lifestyle, medications). $fasting_required$ A trained Orange Health Labs professional will collect the required sample during your visit, following standard procedure. It can be done at any time, usually as part of a heart risk evaluation. Unlike other cholesterol tests, Lp(a) is largely stable over life and is usually measured once, unless your doctor wants to confirm or recheck. Results outside the normal range can point to the conditions this test is used to detect or monitor. Your doctor will interpret your results along with your symptoms and any other tests.
