What it measures
This test measures the amount of magnesium, an important mineral, in the blood. Magnesium is involved in many processes in the body, including nerve signaling, the building of healthy bones, and normal muscle contraction.

Identify Symptoms : High or low magnesium can suggest various symptoms. Symptoms of low magnesium include:
Muscle cramps
Numbness and/or tingling
Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
Seizures (in cases of extremely low magnesium levels)
Loss of appetite
Nausea and vomiting
Fatigue and weakness
Symptoms of high magnesium can be similar to those of low levels, but may also include additional symptoms such as:
Diarrhoea
Abdominal cramping
Cardiac arrest (in cases of extremely high magnesium levels)
Monitor Chronic Conditions : Individuals with chronic kidney disease, diabetes, malnutrition, chronic (long-lasting) diarrhoea, low levels of potassium and/or calcium, malabsorption syndrome or alcohol use disorder may need regular magnesium testing to manage their health.
Medication Management : If you are taking medications that can affect magnesium levels such as diuretics, proton pump inhibitors, or medicines that may contain magnesium, monitoring is essential to avoid complications.
Detect Mineral Imbalances : A Magnesium test can help evaluate the underlying causes of abnormal levels of other minerals, such as calcium and potassium since magnesium plays a role in their absorption.
