What is Vitamin D - Total (Vit D) test?
A blood sample drawn to evaluate the level of Vitamin D present in the body. Vitamin D is a nutrient that is essential for healthy bones and teeth. The doctor would recommend a vitamin D test to evaluate abnormal levels of calcium or phosphorus, when there is evidence of bone disease or bone weakness, or evaluate risks of osteoporosis and other diseases.
Why get the Vitamin D - Total (Vit D) test?
A vitamin D test is used to screen for or monitor bone disorders. It is also used to check the vitamin D levels in people with chronic illnesses such as asthma, psoriasis, and certain autoimmune diseases.
When to take this test?
30 ng/mL to 60 ng/mL
Frequency to repeat test
Every 6 months
