What is Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) test?
The Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) test can be used to detect kidney problems. Urea/ Urea nitrogen is a waste product of metabolism and is excreted by the kidneys. If a person has kidney problems, it would hinder this process of excretion, resulting in an abnormally higher level of urea nitrogen in the Blood.
What happens during this test?
A creatinine blood test is done as a routine screening test to diagnose kidney diseases. This test is also done for those with chronic illness, to decide on medication and dosage before treatment.
