What is Blood Urea test?
Urea is the principal nitrogenous waste product of the body’s metabolic process and is generated from protein breakdown. It is the most widely used screening test for the evaluation of kidney function. Along with the Serum creatinine, urea levels aid in the differential diagnosis of prerenal, renal, and postrenal hyperuricemia.
What happens during this test?
By measuring glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), an overall picture of what the average blood sugar levels have been over a period of 3 months can be known. For people with diabetes this is important as the higher the HbA1c, the greater the risk of developing diabetes-related complications.
When to take this test?
< 50 mg/dL
Frequency to repeat test
Every 6 months
Precautions to be taken before for the test
No particular precautions are required, unless it is recommended by your doctor.
