    What is a HBsAg (Qualitative) (Rapid) Test?

    The Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) test is used to detect an active Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection by identifying HBV antigens. Hepatitis B is a viral infection that primarily affects the liver, causing inflammation. It often starts with a short-term acute phase but can progress to a chronic condition. Long-term inflammation may result in significant liver damage, such as cirrhosis and liver failure. The HBsAg Rapid test is designed for early detection of this infection. This test uses a lateral flow device to quickly and easily identify HBsAg. A positive result indicates HBV presence in the blood, which will require additional testing to establish whether the infection is acute or chronic.
