What is Microalbumin Creatinine Ratio Urine (ALB/CREAT Ratio) test?
Microalbumin test is a test to detect very small levels of a blood protein (albumin) in your urine. Creatinine is a waste product found in urine. A microalbumin creatinine ratio compares the amount of albumin to the amount of creatinine in your urine. A microalbumin creatinine ratio is used to screen people who are at higher risk for kidney disease. These include people with diabetes or high blood pressure. Identifying kidney disease at an early stage can help prevent many complications. If albumin is found in your urine beyond a particular level, it may mean that you may have a problem with your kidneys.
What happens during this test?
Microfilaria is the term used to refer to the larva of a certain parasitic nematode, i.e., filariae when it is still in an early larval stage. These parasites are released into the bloodstream of the host body by the adult parasites. As a result, these embryonic larvae are usually found in the blood of an infected person. This parasitic nematode, filariae, belongs to the family of Onchocercidae. And they are the cause behind the diseases such as elephantiasis, river blindness, Loa loa filariasis, and so on.
