    Lipoprotein (a), written as Lp(a), is a special type of cholesterol‑carrying particle in the blood.     Fasting is often preferred if Lp(a) is done along with a full lipid profile, but not strictly necessary for Lp(a) alone (follow your lab/doctor’s instructions).
