What is Platelet Count (PLT Count) test?
Platelet count is a test that determines the number of platelets in a sample of blood. It can be done as an individual test or can be checked as a part of Complete Blood Count (CBC). Platelets are tiny cells that are required for blood clotting. This test can be used to screen, diagnose, or monitor conditions like bleeding disorders, bone marrow diseases, or other related underlying conditions.
Why get the Platelet Count (PLT Count) test?
The platelet count test will be ordered by your doctor to diagnose and monitor conditions that affect platelet count. Low platelet count is usually seen in viral infections, aplastic anemia, drug-induced disorders, and certain auto-immune disorders. High platelet counts are seen following infections, inflammation, and cancer.
