CertifiedLabsAlpha Feto Protein (AFP) is a protein normally made in large amounts by a developing baby during pregnancy. In adults, only small amounts are usually present. Higher than expected levels can be linked to certain liver conditions, some cancers, or, during pregnancy, to problems with the baby's development. The AFP blood test measures the amount of AFP in your blood. In adults it is mainly used to help look for and monitor certain liver and other cancers. In pregnancy it is used as part of screening to check the baby's development.
