The Iron Profile looks at iron from several angles: serum iron (how much is circulating now), TIBC and UIBC (how much the blood could carry), and transferrin saturation (the percentage actually in use). Read together, these separate true iron deficiency from other causes of a low blood count and can also flag iron overload.
It is often ordered alongside a blood count and ferritin when anaemia is being worked up.
