This test screens for changes in the number of chromosomes across all chromosome pairs, including conditions such as Down syndrome. It is a screening test, so it estimates the chance of a condition rather than giving a final diagnosis.

It is done to screen for common chromosome conditions in the baby such as Down syndrome, offer a safe option that needs only a blood sample from the mother, help decide whether further diagnostic tests are needed, and give reassurance on early information in pregnancy.

A trained Orange Health Labs professional will collect the required sample during your visit, following standard procedure.

Usually done from about 10 weeks of pregnancy onwards, as your doctor advises. A single blood sample from the mother is enough.

Results outside the normal range can point to the conditions this test is used to detect or monitor. Your doctor will interpret your results along with your symptoms and any other tests.

Share your report with your doctor, especially if your results are abnormal or your symptoms continue, so they can advise you on the next steps.
