CertifiedLabsThis test compares the amount of protein to the amount of creatinine in a single urine sample. Healthy kidneys keep most protein in the blood, so a high ratio can be an early sign that the kidneys are leaking protein. The urine protein creatinine ratio measures protein loss in the urine using one sample, without needing a full day's urine collection. It is a convenient way to check kidney health.
A waste product measured to standardise the microalbumin reading.
Before the Test
Tell your doctor if you have a urine infection, fever, or were doing heavy exercise, as these can raise protein temporarily.
Avoid giving the sample during menstrual bleeding if possible.
Fasting is not required.
During the Test
A trained Orange Health Labs professional will collect your sample during the visit.
Follow the instructions given to you at the time of collection.
The sample is labelled and sent to the laboratory for testing.
Let the collection team know if you feel unwell during the procedure.
It is recommended:
To screen for or monitor kidney damage, especially in people with diabetes or high blood pressure.
To check kidneys in pregnancy, including for conditions linked to high blood pressure.
To follow up an abnormal urine dipstick result.
To track kidney disease over time.
It can be done at any time, often using an early morning urine sample. Your doctor will tell you if a specific timing is needed.
