Which Is Healthier for Your Heart? Ghee, Olive Oil, or Sunflower

    hero image

When it comes to heart health, cooking oils are one of the most debated topics. From ghee to olive oil, every option seems to carry strong opinions, and it can get confusing to know what’s best. In this episode of The Orange Club Podcast, Dr. Dimpu Edwin clears up some common myths and explains what truly matters.

Watch the video here: What’s healthier for the heart?

    The Great Oil Debate

Walk into any grocery store today and you’ll see endless options, sunflower oil, olive oil, safflower oil, ghee, and more. Each one comes with claims of being healthier than the other, especially when it comes to cholesterol and heart health. But are these claims backed by real evidence?

Why Quantity Matters More Than Type

According to Dr. Edwin, the bigger issue is not which oil you use, but how much of it you consume. Deep-fried foods, regardless of whether they’re cooked in sunflower oil or olive oil, still load your body with unhealthy amounts of fat. Switching oils won’t cancel out the negative effects of excess consumption.

What About Olive Oil and Other “Healthy” Options?

For years, extra virgin olive oil and safflower oil have been thought of as heart-friendly options. While there is some data suggesting potential benefits, there isn’t enough evidence to say these oils can actively prevent heart attacks. Simply swapping oils is not a guaranteed solution for heart health.

Instead of obsessing over which oil to buy, it’s wiser to focus on moderation and healthy cooking methods. Less oil overall, fewer deep-fried foods, and a balanced diet rich in whole foods will do far more for your heart than any single “super oil.”
