Ozempic has become one of the most talked-about medicines for diabetes worldwide. In this episode of The Orange Club Podcast, Dr. Raja Selvarajan explains what it is, how it works, and why it’s not yet available in India.

    What Exactly is Ozempic?

Ozempic is the brand name for semaglutide, a drug developed to help manage type 2 diabetes. Its primary role is lowering HbA1c levels, which reflect long-term blood sugar control.

    Beyond Blood Sugar: Added Benefits

In addition to diabetes management, Ozempic has shown another advantage: it helps reduce weight and waist circumference. This dual effect is one reason the drug has gained so much attention globally.

    Availability in India

Ozempic itself has not yet launched in India. However, a lower-dose, oral form of semaglutide marketed as Rybelsus is available. While it’s not identical, it offers some of the same benefits in managing diabetes.

    The Bottom Line

Ozempic represents a promising step forward in diabetes care by addressing both blood sugar and weight. For now, Indian patients have access to its oral counterpart until the injectable version becomes available.
