What is C - Reactive protein test?
C-reactive Protein (CRP) is a protein synthesized by the liver, which increases during acute and chronic inflammatory conditions. If the level of CRP gradually decreases after a sudden elevation, the inflammation/infection is responding to treatment.
Why get the C- Reactive Protein test?
CRP test would be ordered by your doctor to detect and monitor inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. It might be ordered as a part of post-operative care to detect infections if any.
