The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is a number that estimates how well your kidneys are filtering waste from your blood. It is calculated from a blood test result along with your age and sex. The eGFR is worked out from your blood creatinine level and personal details. It gives a practical measure of kidney function and helps detect and stage kidney disease.

Before the Test

• Tell your doctor about all medicines and supplements.

• Mention recent heavy exercise or a very high meat intake, as these can temporarily affect the result.

• Follow any fasting instructions if part of a larger panel.

During the Test

• A trained Orange Health Labs professional will collect your sample during the visit.

• Follow the instructions given to you at the time of collection.

• The sample is labelled and sent to the laboratory for testing.

• Let the collection team know if you feel unwell during the procedure.
