Troponin‑I is a protein found in heart muscle cells. When the heart muscle is damaged—such as during a heart attack—Troponin‑I is released into the bloodstream. It is one of the most important tests to detect heart damage. The Troponin‑I test measures the level of Troponin‑I in your blood. High levels usually mean injury to the heart muscle, most commonly from a heart attack.

Before the Test

This is an emergency/urgent test; no fasting is usually needed.

Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, severe infections, or recent strenuous exercise, as these can sometimes affect levels.

Report all medicines you are taking, especially those for the heart or blood pressure.

During the Test

A trained Orange Health Labs professional will collect your sample during the visit.

Follow the instructions given to you at the time of collection.

The sample is labelled and sent to the laboratory for testing.

Let the collection team know if you feel unwell during the procedure.

It is recommended:

To check for a heart attack in people with chest pain, shortness of breath, or discomfort in the jaw, neck, back, or arm.

To assess the severity of heart damage.

To monitor ongoing heart conditions such as unstable angina or heart failure.

To help decide urgent treatment in the emergency room.

Immediately if you have symptoms suggesting a heart attack The test may be repeated after a few hours to see if levels are rising or falling, which helps confirm or rule out a heart attack.
