What is the Activated Protein C Resistance test?
Activated Protein C Resistance (APCR) is a form of hypercoagulability (an increased tendency of the blood to clot) characterized by a lack of response to activated protein C (APC), which normally helps prevent blood from clotting excessively.
When is the Activated Protein C Resistance test recommended?
It is recommended:To determine whether you have activated protein C-resistance or to evaluate inappropriate blood clotting. If you have any clotting disorders or have had an unexplained blood clot. This test is performed if you have any family history of protein C deficiency disorders to check whether you have combined defects (protein C deficiency disorders and activated protein C-resistance).
    What does it measure?
The Activated Protein C Resistance test measures: Activated protein C (APC), in a complex with protein S, which inactivates procoagulant factors V and VIII by proteolytic cleavage at specific arginine residues.Protein C helps to control blood clot formation by inactivating specific coagulation factors (factors V and VIII) that are necessary to form blood clots. If there is not enough protein S in the blood, it may lead to excessive clotting. The Activated Protein C Resistance phenotype is typically diagnosed with an activated partial thromboplastin time-based on the assay, which detects factor V: Q506-dependent as well as acquired Activated Protein C Resistance. The activated protein C-resistance is not very common in individuals with a deficiency of protein S (a protein involved in the clotting process), protein C, or antithrombin III (another protein involved in the clotting process).
How long will the reports take?
You will get the reports within 120 hours after the collection of the blood sample.
