    What is the Cotinine test?
This test measures the amount of Cotinine in your blood or urine. Cotinine is a chemical your body makes after nicotine exposure. Analyzing the cotinine is better than measuring nicotine because nicotine disappears from your system within a few hours, but cotinine remains for a day or more.
When is the Cotinine test recommended?
It is recommended in:Symptoms such as a burning mouth, feeling sick, abdominal pain, salivating (drooling), diarrhea, sweating, confusion, dizziness, agitation, increased heart rate, rapid or difficult breathing, convulsions, coma, and even death.
    What does it measure?
In the Cotinine test, exposure to nicotine leads to measurable levels of cotinine in the blood.Cotinine is a metabolite of nicotine, which means that it’s produced when nicotine is broken down in the body, primarily by the lungs, liver, and kidneys. This Cotinine remains in the body for longer than nicotine, so it is a more reliable test to detect and measure nicotine exposure.Blood tests can be used to detect nicotine as well as its metabolites, including cotinine and anabasine. Nicotine itself may be present in the blood only for 48 hours, while cotinine may be detectable for up to three weeks. Nicotine and Cotinine testing may also be requested in cases of suspected nicotine poisoning. Acute overdoses of nicotine, such as what might happen if a child ingests nicotine lozenges or gum, are relatively rare but generally require immediate medical attention.
How long will the reports take?
You will get the reports within 15 hours after the collection of the blood sample.
