What causes low calcium levels (hypocalcemia)?

Hypocalcemia, or low calcium levels, can result from vitamin D deficiency, kidney disease, parathyroid dysfunction, or low magnesium levels. Symptoms include muscle cramps, tingling, and seizures in severe cases. Identifying and treating hypocalcemia early through a calcium test prevents long-term complications.
