    Can CRP tests be inaccurate?

While CRP tests are highly reliable, certain factors can lead to inaccuracies. Temporary conditions like minor infections, injuries, or recent surgeries can elevate CRP levels without indicating chronic inflammation. Similarly, medications such as NSAIDs or corticosteroids may suppress CRP levels, potentially masking underlying inflammation. Improper sample handling or delayed processing at the laboratory can also affect results, though this is rare in accredited labs. Biological factors, such as pregnancy or hormonal changes, may also influence CRP levels. For this reason, CRP results are always interpreted alongside clinical findings, symptoms, and other diagnostic tests. If your results are inconsistent with your health condition, your doctor may recommend retesting or additional investigations to confirm the findings.
