For a standard CRP test, fasting is not required. You can eat and drink as usual before your appointment. However, if your doctor has ordered a high-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) test to evaluate your cardiovascular risk, fasting might be necessary if it is being done alongside other tests such as cholesterol or lipid profiling. In this case, you would typically be asked to avoid food or drink (except water) for 8–12 hours before the test. It is essential to follow your doctor’s instructions to ensure accurate results. Certain foods, recent exercise, or alcohol consumption can temporarily affect CRP levels. For this reason, it’s a good idea to avoid heavy meals or strenuous activities the evening before. Be sure to discuss any medications or supplements you’re taking, as some drugs, like statins or anti-inflammatory medications, might impact CRP levels.
