There are primarily two types of Dengue ELISA tests: IgM ELISA and IgG ELISA. The IgM ELISA test is used to detect IgM antibodies, which are the first antibodies produced by the immune system in response to a dengue infection. These antibodies typically become detectable within a few days to a week after the onset of symptoms and indicate a recent infection. The IgG ELISA test, on the other hand, detects IgG antibodies, which appear later and persist for a longer duration, indicating past exposure or secondary infection. Additionally, the NS1 antigen test can be used to detect the non-structural protein 1 (NS1) of the dengue virus, which is present in the blood during the early stages of infection, often before antibodies are detectable. Combining these tests helps in providing a comprehensive diagnosis, differentiating between primary and secondary infections, and understanding the stage of the disease.
