What is Dehydroepiandro Steroine Sulphate (DHEAS) test?
DHEA is a weak male hormone (androgen) produced by adrenal glands in both men and women. The DHEA-S is produced by the testes but not by the ovaries. This test is helpful in assessing disorders related to adrenal gland and infertility:
1. Adrenal hyperplasia
2. Adrenal tumors
4. Delayed puberty
Why get the Dehydroepiandro Steroine Sulphate (DHEAS) test?
DHEA sulfate is produced primarily by the adrenal glands. This test is helpful to clinically assess the difference between excessive adrenal production of androgens (male hormones) from abnormally high ovarian production in women. Plasma DHEA sulfate is also often measured during the evaluation of women with hirsutism.
