The function of Red Blood Cells is to carry oxygen from our lungs to the rest of our bodies. Then they make the return trip, taking carbon dioxide back to our lungs to be exhaled. This test helps check for the level of red blood cells.
Why get the Red Blood Cell Count (RBC) test?
Pregnant women, especially, need to monitor red blood cell count along with hemoglobin, as low levels can affect the growth of feotus. Elderly people with low red blood cell count should also be checked for nutritional deficiency or cancers.
