Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells secreted by the bone marrow. A reticulocyte count test can help your doctor assess if the bone marrow is producing enough red blood cells. It is also used to monitor response to treatment or may be ordered with hemolytic anemia is suspected.
Why get the Reticulocyte Count (RETIC) test?
This test would be recommended if you have anemia or at risk of hemolytic anemia. To evaluate the function of the bone marrow, absolute reticulocyte count, and reticulocyte production index are ordered.
