A thyroid function test (TFT) can indicate whether a thyroid nodule is functioning normally by measuring TSH, T3, and T4 levels. However, TFTs alone cannot directly detect the presence of thyroid nodules. If nodules are suspected, your doctor will likely order an ultrasound or a thyroid scan to visualize the nodule. Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy may also be required to assess whether the nodule is benign or cancerous. Abnormal TFT results alongside thyroid nodules may suggest thyroid dysfunction, guiding further diagnosis.
